Authenticity.

And its somthing I believe to be a huge issue holding a lot of people back in not just their businesses but in life. Maybe you?

If there is one piece of advice I think I could tell anyone when it comes to life, business, success, happiness… anything.

Its BE AUTHENTIC.

Be who you are.

Speak your mind.

Stand up for what you believe in.

Be yourself. Be awesome.

As my good friend Aaron Rashkin would say. “If you don’t stand for somthing you stand for nothing.”

That could not be more on the money.

Trying to be something your not, trying to be someone else because on some level it appears that they are having the success you want could be whats holding you back from the life you truly want right now. Plain and simple.

I remember when I first came online.  I was a struggling broke construction worker living off of peanut butter sandwhiches and canned tuna (not particularly in that order…).  I was willing to do what ever it took to make it, to be successful, to break away from the life and environment I had created for myself given my current beliefs and experience.

Work hard, pay your taxes, retire and die.

F#%& that. (warned you it would be raw)

I had traveled far enough down that road to realize where it was going to end. I realized that if I didn’t change the direction I was going, that I was actually going to end up where I was headed…

And the thought of it TERRIFIED me.

I had a full on panic attack when this one morning in the shower before work.

So by the time I was knee deep in this online world investing in myself, my education, and learning and studying and dissecting business models and making moves, I was willing to do whatever it took to end the suffering.  To get me out of the pain and suffering I had created for myself.

To the point where for a short period I actually lost WHO I was, and who I even wanted to be. Or what I wanted to be known for.

I wasn’t being authentic.  And it was truly holding me back.

Small pieces of evidence from my joinery still float around online to this day.

Take this for example

Thats not me.  Well it is me (and I do like pink shirts haha).  But in reality what that is. Is an insecure 22 year old kid who doesn’t think that his knowledge, insights, perspective, experience and results is enough to be taken seriously by an older audience. Is enough to be viewed as a viable resource for business and finical perspective despite his results (this was after I had “made it”).

I actually went out and had professional pictures taken with a tie on all nice and clean cut just to portray a more professional image because of my own insecurities.

Up until this day, I actually had long hair and a lip ring believe it or not haha.

Not that there was anything actually wrong with professional photos.  But in all honesty, I don’t where ties. I was portraying something that I associated with an image of success that wasn’t even really mine. I wasn’t being authentic, I wasn’t thinking for myself.  Heck keeping with the theme of authenticity, Im sitting here in pajama pants sitting at a starbucks writing this for you right now. The ability to be able to do that.  Thats more my definition of success haha.

Understand this.

Your power comes from WHO YOU ARE.  How someone may or maynot portray you is fine.  You can’t please everyone and you should never try to.  In doing so you will please no one.

No matter your taste, your personality, how you look, no matter WHAT there is about you, there is an audience, there is a group of people who will be attracted to that, who will resonate with that, who will appreciate you for you.  Period.

Your perspective, your point of view, your experiences are soupy unique to YOU.  Unless you are being authentic and being real, no one will get to share in what makes you, you.

Take fashion for example.

Ever wonder how some people can simply pull off wearing ANYTHING.  Seriously.  Its not what your wearing.  Its how your wearing it.  Its the confidence and certainty you have.  Its your level of belief in what your doing and who you are.

The sooner you step into WHO you are, and choose who you want to be.  What you want to be known for, the sooner you can step into your personal power, and begin claiming the results and building the life you actually want.

Not something you may have unconsciously stumbled into thinking you wanted up until this point.

It simply comes down to a choice.

Truth be told, we all grow and learn from our experiences.  There are things I’ve done, tastes I’ve had that I’ve grown out of, that I’ve developed.  Both in the content I read, I write.  The cloths I where heck the food I eat.

I couldn’t stand onions till like last month haha….

Share of yourself, be authentic.

Learn from your experiences and the lessons that come with each and everyone of them.

Probably one of the most self defeating things I ever did, that hurt my credibility, my relationships, heck even the trust that certain people in my life had for me came when I first got started in this online world.

I’ve never actually told anyone this story.  And it may shock some,  but hit home for where others are right now.

When I was first was getting into affiliate marketing and putting out some content (which was TERRIBLE by the way.  Embarassing on so many levels to look back on now and think that somthing like that was even possible haha.  But we learn and grow right)

I had cut this video while I was visiting a good friend of mine.  And I had cut this video, a very lame, embarrassing video.

In the video I implied that I was actually living in this particular home, and portraying a level of success and wealth that wasn’t mine.  Mean while I was broke as a joke, $36,000 in debt at the time, hadn’t made a penny online and was surviving off of peanut butter sandwiches…

True story. Embarrassing story, but true.

Does it get any more in-authentic then that? To this day I am so embarrassed and ashamed that I did something like that.

I was struggling, I was hurting, I was frustrated and I was trying to do what I was seeing online. I didn’t think it was possible for me to be successful until I was successful….  

Crazy logic right?

How the EFF does that make sense. It doesn’t.

I wasn’t even aware of this belief until a few real buddies of mine actually seen this video. They immediately called me,  almost in tears laughing.

They knew how hard up I was, how much I was struggling.  They wanted to know WTF I was doing.

And they were right.  WTF was I doing?

I really wasn’t aware of it at the time. So thank god they called me out.  I am actually so happy, and grateful for that experience.  For that embarrassment, for that shame.  That was the first lesson I ever learned in authenticity.

Also thank god they were some of the first people to see the video so I could take it down before it did anymore damage.  I was unconsciously stepping into a space where I thought I had to “fake it till I made it”.

What a load of crap.

Thank god they called me on it.  Thank god I had to experience the shame and embarrassment.  Without it I could of caused some serious damage.

The lesson here.  Be authentic in everything you do.  Cut the shit.

If your new, let people know your new.  Share your experiences, your stories.  BE REAL.

There is nothing more powerful than being real.  Thats what resonates with people.  Thats what connects with people. Being you.  There is only ONE you.  There is only one perspective on the planet like yours.  Thats your value.  Thats your power.

The reality is that you can BE, DO, or HAVE anything you want in this world.

The hardest part is choosing.  Just be present, be aware of how you are showing up.  Because awareness creates choice.

Having this self awareness gives you the power to choose at any moment to be who you want to be, to do what you want to do.

Step into your own power.  Be authentic, be real, be you and watch how your results in business, and in life begin to shift to make room for that space.

Wear your insecurities on your sleeve.  Share your story, share your experiences and see what happens.  Be vulnerable.

So often I come across new marketers, bloggers, or entrepreneurs work where this lack of authenticity is just so blatantly obvious.  And its DESTROYING their work.

Sometimes it comes off in a light where something just seems off about them.  Theres no real sticking point or anything real about them that is relatable.

Its no secret that the whole purpose of any business on the planet is to find, keep, and grow a relationship with the RIGHT people.

How can there be a relationship if theres nothing to relate with?

In most cases this issue isn’t even their fault.  And if that example describes you, its not your fault either.

Its like the blind leading the blind out there right now.

And that truly is the case for the internet marketing, make money online and home business industry.

So many people pretending to be something their not.  Everyone a self proclaimed “guru” leading people in circles filling their heads with miss information.

Its the same reason I had this unconscious belief of “faking it till you make it”.  Its bull.  Don’t fall for that. Be careful who your learning from.

It wasn’t Until I started working with Jay Kubassek that I really truly understood this.  He changed my entire perspective on what it means to be authentic.  Heck we had a pretty heavy conversation about this very topic down in vegas at around 3 am while sitting at a little smoothy bar at the Mandalay Bay Casino.

Truth be told, I was terrified about going on stage to speak infront of hundreds of people at PRO U’s master marketing event.  What was I scared of?   What is anyone scared of when speaking in public?

Being judged?  What does it matter if people are judging you if your being authentic.  If your being yourself.  If your sharing openly and honestly.

By the time this picture was taken…

We had only left the bar hours earlier. So I wasn’t scared of nothing haha.

I went out there and I shared from the heart.  I shared my perspective.  I shared my insights.  I shared my story.  I shared about the incredible night we had just spent out with Jay and my new distinctions on Authenticity.

Showing up in that space is what made it real.  Setting the intention of being authentic is what connected the audience to the content, to the message, to the story.

Being authentic and quite honestly “not giving a shit” what anyone thought was what freed me from that little voice in my head.

So whats my point?  Well I’d be lieing if I said I didn’t get distracted there for a moment with that story haha. Good times.

My point being.

Who are you learning from.

Who are you working with.  Who are your role models.  Who are your mentors?

Are you not getting the results your looking for?

Are you overwhelmed?

Are you frustrated?

Stop, take a moment and look at who you have or have not been learning from.  Who’s been guiding you and influencing how you’ve been showing up. Have you been learning from someone who themselves has been “faking it till they make it” like I was.

Are you working with a “self proclaimed guru”.  Or are you working with someone who’s real.  Who’s actually doing it.  And who is in a position to show you how you can actually do it to.

Thats what Jay was for me.  After speaking with Jay and gaining these insights it was like I was seeing clearly for the first time in my life.

What you put into your mind comes out.  Choose the information you take seriously wisely. Results speak louder then words.

Surround yourself with the Jay’s of the world.  Marketers, Mentors, Thought leaders, and entrepreneurs who don’t just know what to do, but do what they know.  Who don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk.

Mentorship

I have yet to meet someone who has reached a level of success worth striving for that has not had a mentor in their life. The guidance from someone who has accomplished what they wanted.

The image of Michael Jordan is a perfect example.

Micahel Jordan was the best basketball player in the world. (Still is… Kobe aint got S#@%).  Now why was it that he had a coach?

Why did he take the time to listen to the insights, to the perspective of his mentor, someone who could see the game from a different viewpoint and offer a different perspective. The coach clearly wasn’t as good at basketball as Michael but  his perspective was so valuable to him because he had a 40,000 ft view of the game. While Michael was down in the trenches doing the work, his coach could offer him insights that he himself could not see from the court.

“We can’t solve the problems we create when we are at the same level of thinking we were when we created them.” – Einstein

One of the best ways to solve a significant problem is to find someone that is 1, 2, 3…10 years further down the road than you, has two or three years more experience, and who already IS where you want to be. They will be able to look at your situation and the solution will be obvious to them. But you can’t see what the obvious solutions are because you don’t share the same perspective yet. That’s why having a good mentor is crucial. Thats why its THE common denominator.

A mentor can pull you up to the next level and give you a different perspective of any situation or problem. They usually offer some technique or step-by-step instruction in order to shift your paradigm and show you how to view the problem so that you can solve it quickly and easily.

Simply put, we don’t know what we don’t know…you know?

In the internet marketing, home business space aligning yourself with a successful mentor and leveraging a proven business model, and proven sales and marketing system to create a seamless sales sequence, is the quickest and easiest way to achieve positive cash flow, online or off. “People can be divided into two classes:  those who go ahead and do something, and those people who sit still and inquire, why wasn’t it done the other way?” -Oliver Wendell Holmes

Entrepreneurs fall into two categories:  Doers and Feelers.

Doers do what needs to be done to reach a goal that they have set.  They start work each day having already planned out what needs to be done to move them closer to accomplishing their goal.

Feelers on the other hand, do what they feel like doing.  Feelers take their emotional temperature throughout their day, checking in on themselves, figuring out what they feel like doing right now.  Their lives, their results, their financial circumstances are all determined by the changing of their feelings throughout the day.

Their feelings will change constantly, obviously, so its next to impossible for a feeler to follow through with anything to a successful completion. Their feelings are changed by everything from a bad stomach, an annoying call from a friend, a rude waitress,  the weather, a bit of a headache, even a thought. Those are the dictating forces of a feelers life.

A doer, an action taker, already knows in advance how much time will be spent placing ads, how much on the phone, how much on social media, how much studying, how much creating content, how much networking with other entrepreneurs.  A doer understands his high priority money making activities, and structures his day around them.

Doers use a three-step system to guarantee success:

1. They figure out what they want to achieve (set a goal)
2. They figure out what needs to be done to achieve it
3. THEY DO IT!

This is NOT a theory, this is the actual observed system used by all super achievers and successful entrepreneurs without fail. Period.

A feeler is aimless in a mysterious life of unexpected consequences and depressing problems they create for themselves. Simply from BEING a feeler.
A feeler asks, “Do I feel like placing ads right now?”  “Do I feel like tweaking my funnel right now?”  “Do I feel like writing that article right now?” “Do I feel like doing any work right now?”  If the answer is no, then the feeler keeps going down the list, asking, “Do I feel like doing something else?”

Its all a ploy by the feeler to “feel” productive, to feel good.  Their day is not dedicated to getting anything done other than what they feel like doing.

A feeler lives inside that line of analysis all day long. They create a state of paralysis by analysis.

On the other side of things, a doer has a high self-esteem, and confidence on where his time is spent and the tasks he is working on. A doer enjoys all sorts of satisfaction throughout the day, even though some, if not most, are following some sort of discomfort.

A feeler is always trying to BE comfortable, but never really satisfied.

A doer knows the true, deep down joy that only life’s super achievers and successful entrepreneurs know.

A feeler believes that joy is for kids, and that life as an adult is an ongoing hassle. Perception is reality…

A doer understands that life is fun and games

A doer experiences more and more power each and everyday as they build one success on the next.

Where as feelers continue to dis-empower themselves day in and day out with their lack of commitment and constant state of analysis, that they merely like to justify. Lets be honest, excuses are easy.  You can have your story and an excuse, or you can have success… but you can’t have both.

Your ability to motivate, and inspire others skyrockets when you play from the paradigm of a doer.

This is a simple concept of BE, DO, HAVE.  You need to recognize WHO you are BEING on a daily basis.  You need to “wake up” to how you are showing up in your business each and everyday.

Are you a Doer, or a Feeler?

The good news is, its simply a choice.  Now that you are conscious of how you are showing up in your business and in your life, you can make the conscious choice to BE a Doer.  To BE an action taker.

When you show up as a leader, a doer, an action taker.  You will DO the things that leaders DO, and then you can HAVE the things, the results that leaders HAVE.

I am a recovering feeler.  If you know me you know I like to take all things to that next level. And I managed to do that as a feeler.  I was the worlds greatest excuse maker, and could take any situation, and justify my actions and the result.  I held onto those stories and that paradigm for years.  It wasn’t until I “woke up” to who I was BEING, and the stories and excuses I was creating that were doing nothing but holding me back.  Only then could I make the choice to become a DOER and move forward.

I made this choice just over a year ago when I woke up to my own reality.  Since then, I get to enjoy the life style of my dreams, and travel all over the world because of the actions I have taken as an online entrepreneur.  Here’s a clip from my recent trip down to New York.

Its simple really, The Choice is Yours.

You can BE, DO, or HAVE anything you choose in this life.

Now that you know… are you going to choose to BE a Doer, or a Feeler?

The first time anything new and creative is proposed, it gets labeled. And the label put on these novel things is likely to be “risky.” Can’t you just hear it?

“Let me get this straight, Orville. You and Wilbur are building a machine that will do what? Heavier-than-air flying machines are the riskiest hoax anybody ever palmed off on two gullible boys like you Wrights. Get a real job!”

Or maybe it was somebody’s harebrained idea of talking pictures, black and white children attending the same school, or people walking on the moon. More than one person was berated simply for giving voice to such “silly” ideas.

It turns out that some of the people who dared to propose such outlandish possibilities are now regarded as geniuses – revolutionaries – heroes. And it was only because they dared to question others and to question themselves. They challenged the limitations others were willing to take for granted.

There is something in your profession or business, your family or church that could be done better. A situation could be more productive. A relationship could be healthier. An objective could be clarified. Some lofty ideal to which all in the group give lip service could actually be implemented. But I warn you up front: Like restoring a car or house, it will take twice as long as you thought, cost far more than you anticipated, and strain every important relationship in your life!

Only you can decide if it will be worth it to undertake something so ambitious and costly. There will be false starts. There will be embarrassing mistakes along the way. But the potential outcome could be as important to your personal situation as the achievements of the Wright brothers, Rosa Parks, and Neil Armstrong were to their time and place.

The problem with our world is not that there are no more frontiers to challenge and conquer. It’s that there are too few explorers. There are too few people willing to ask the obvious questions and challenge the traditional wisdom. In a word, too few of us want to take the risks that could make us look stupid.

If you are fortunate enough to have a dream in your heart, be willing to make mistakes in pursuit of it. Be a risk-taker. You just might change the world.

So I’m just gonna come out and say it. The most important factor to your success in anything that you approach in your life, is your mindset. Even further, your beliefs. If there is one belief I know that has served me, its the belief that

“I Can only FAIL, if I Decide to give up…”

I hold a firm belief that everything we do in our lives is a choice, a decision, and the choices we make shape our lives. And that if I make a choice to accomplish something, or to set a goal. That the ONLY way that goal will not get accomplished no matter how big, or small, is if I CHOOSE to give up.

There is no such thing as FAILURE. What a 99%er  (  You know… Sheeple…) might consider a failure, and a reason or excuse to give up. I see as a lesson learned. I just learned a way not to do something. If u learn all the ways not to do something, your eventually only going to be left with the way to do it properly. right?

I would go as far as to say that the QUICKER You fail, the Quicker you can succeed. The faster you get those trial runs out of the way, and hold in your mind the belief that you can BE, DO , or HAVE anything you want, anything you make the choice to commit yourself to obtaining. The sooner you can enjoy the fruits of your labors.

But until you commit yourself to this, until you make the decision to do WHATEVER it takes to achieve your goals, and commit yourself to the process of success. Until you do that, success will fall just out of your reach.

But if you can stay focused, hold in your mind what it is that you want, and take action consistently to move yourself closer to your goals, there is nothing you can do BUT Succeed.

“Its not a matter of “IF” You will Succeed, its simply a matter of “WHEN”

When will you make the decision to be successful, the decision to have what it is that you want in life, the Decision to take action, and do what needs to be done.

Given that you are hear reading this, you and I both know that you have already made this decision. That you are a 1%er, that you are a leader, and that you are committed to doing WHATEVER it takes to achieving your goals, your dreams, and living life on your terms.  You are committed to living your true life’s purpose.

and if for even ONE second you forget that, come back here and read this again, and remember just how simple it is to BE, DO, or HAVE anything that you want in this world.

The movie is about a drifter who finds a pair of sunglasses that
allow him to see alien beings hiding in plain site amongst humans.
In other words, when he puts on these funky glasses, he can see
alien space ships, propaganda messages written on billboards and
the aliens’ grotesque faces clear as day (while everyone else sees
just normal human beings, normal air craft, typical advertising
slogans, etc).

Anyway, here’s why I bring it up:

This is not all that different from when you become an entrepreneur.

When you put on entrepreneur “glasses” you see a whole new world.

Instead of despair, you see opportunity.

Instead of whining about current events, you ignore them.

Instead of waiting for a “super hero” politician to save the day,
you take the world by the cajones and make your own way — with or
without their help.

It’s an extremely exciting life.

I can’t even IMAGINE doing anything else.

And most entrepreneurs become psychologically unemployable after
they get their first taste of success.

But it’s definitely not for everyone.

And if it was always easy, everyone would do it….

Lucky for you, its not always easy, but its a heck of a lot easier
